Martin Edwards' thoughts about the race

1. What the…..? Why would you do this crazy race?

All about challenge. Every time you complete a challenge you want something more and I think this does pretty nicely.
 

2. What are you most looking forward to as you pound the dunes?

Seeing what I’m capable of enduring. Really testing myself physically and mentally.
 

3. Have you any idea of the sorts of things you’ll think about while you’re out there? Have you been mentally preparing?

Looking forward to a shower I’d say as we will all be a bit on the nose by day two so imagine by day seven!
 

4. Any recipe tips from the “dried and reconstituted” packet-mix-recipe-book?

Reconstituted Chana Masala, mmmmmm I can almost taste it now!
 

5. Do you two ever fight? How are you going to stay friendly?

Usually about fashion but seeing we will both be matching it shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t steal my hat!
 

6. What do your partners and kids think of you heading off?

Nuts but quite used to it by now. Me poor old Mum does not approve!
 

7. What’s the toughest run you’ve done in preparation?

The Two Bays Ultra down at Dromana was pretty hard. Very hilly and got lost and added on two extra kilometers. That was hard to take 48km in to a 55km run!
 

8. Most bizarre comment you’ve had since telling people of your plans for the Sahara?

At least you’ll be running along the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 

9. Any camels involved to carry your gear?

No but will keep a look out for Camel Spiders. Do a google!
 

10. Will you need to wee down your leg?

I’ll need to all the time but will refrain and find a cactus!
 

11. Will you need a mask to protect you from the sand?

A buff is essential, it wraps around your head and covers you from the bottom of the eyes to your neck
 

12. Who will meet you at the finishing line?

My wife and she will be a sight for sore eyes!
